The city of Tekeli was formed on January 29, 1952. The city is located in the foothills of the western slope of the northern massif of the Dzungarian Alatau, cut by the gorge-shaped valleys of the Tekeli, Chazha, Kora, Karatal rivers, and stretched in the form of a meandering belt for 32 km. The rivers Chazha and Kor are tributaries of the Karatal River, the Tekeli River is the left tributary of the Chazha River. Tekeli is an industrial city. The enterprises of the city produce: marble flour, malt, the extraction and processing of marble, gabbro and shungite.
