East Kazakhstan region

East Kazakhstan region is located in the eastern part of Kazakhstan on the border with Russia and China. Itwasfoundedin 1932. East Kazakhstan occupies a territory of 283.23 thousand sq m which is more than 10% of the territory of Kazakhstan. The administrative center is Ust-Kamenogorsk.The region consists of 15 districts and 6 cities of the regional subordination. East Kazakhstan region is one of the industrial regions of Kazakhstan. The basic sector of its economy is nonferrous metal industry. Engineering and metalworking, energy, forestry and wood processing industries, light industry and food industry are well developed as well. Along with the developed key specialization, the region has a unique tourist potential. Description

Glubokoe district was formed on December 31, 1964. The district occupies a favourable geographical position. It borders on Shemonaikha, Ulan and Ziryan district, Altai territory, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Ridder cities. The area - 7,3 thousand sq.km. Administrative district structure includes 12 rural districts and 4 settlements. Administrative centre – Glubokoe settlement, it is removed from the regional centre (Ust-Kamenogorsk) on 27 km. On the territory of the rayon there are the railway and automobile lines of the republican value.

Description

Katon-Karagaisky rayon was formed on August 1, 1928. The rayon is situated in the northeast part of the territory of the region. In the north and the north-east the rayon borders on the Republic Altai of the Russian Federation, in the southeast on the Chinese National Republic, in the south on the Kurchumski rayon, in the north - on Ziryanovski rayon, in the west – the rayon is washed by Bukhtarminski water basin. The territory of the rayon makes 13167 sq.km (1319075 ha). Administrative centre is Bolshenarym settlement, it locates in 263 km from the regional centre of Ust-Kamenogorsk city. There are 13 rural districts. Area of agricultural direction.

Description

The Kurchum district was founded in 1927. The region borders with the Kokpekty, Katon-Karagai districts of the East Kazakhstan region and with the China. The area of the district is 23.2 thousand square kilometers. In the administrative-territorial structure of the district there are 12 rural districts or 61 settlements. The administrative center of Kurchum village is remote from the regional center by 220 km.

Description

The city of Ridder was founded in 1786 as a settlement of Ridder and named so in honor of the mining engineer Philip Ridder - the discoverer of ore deposits. The city of Ridder is located in the north-east of Kazakhstan, the administrative territory is bordered by the Republic of Altai of the Russian Federation. The territory of 3,4 thousand square kilometers (1.2% of the territory of the East Kazakhstan region). At present, the city of Ridder is an industrial region of the East Kazakhstan region. Shemonaikha district was formed in 1928, located in the northern part of East Kazakhstan region. It borders on Glubokoe and Borodulikha districts and the Altai Territory of the Russian Federation. The territory of the district makes up 4 000 square kilometers. There are 11 political units, including 8 rural districts, 2 settlement and 1 town districts. The administrative centre is Shemonaikha town. The basic branches of the district are the mining industry and agriculture.

Description

Tarbagatai district was founded in 1928. The district is situated in the south-eastern part of East-Kazakhstan region between Tarbagatay mountain range and Zaisan cavity. It borders on Zaisan district in the east, on Urjar and Ayagoz districts in the west, on Kokpekty and Zharma districts in the north. The border on Chinese People's Republic in the south makes up 300km. The territory of the district makes up 23 800 sq.km. On the whole there are 65 settlements in the rayon including 16 rural districts and 1 community. The administrative centre of the rayon is Aksuat settlement. The distance from Aksuat settlement up to the oblast centre is 350km, up to Ayaguz, Zhangiztobe railway stations is 220-350km., up to Tugyl wharf is 270km.

Description

Ulan district was founded in 1928. The district is situated in the north-western part of East-Kazakhstan region. The area of the district is 9610 square kilometers. A total of 47 settlements located in 13 rural districts and 3 settlements. The administrative center of the district is Kasym Kaysenov village, which is located 10 kilometers from the regional center, the distance to the nearest railway station is 15 kilometers.

Description

The city of Ust-Kamenogorsk was founded in 1720 as a fortress "Ust-Kamennaya" by the Decree of Peter I to strengthen the borders of the state and exploration of gold deposits in the upper Irtysh. Ust-Kamenogorsk is located in the north-east of Kazakhstan at the confluence of the Irtysh and Ulba rivers and covers an area of ​​54,400 ha. In the territory of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, the East Kazakhstan region, a diversified industrial complex has emerged, represented by basic industries (production of the metallurgical industry - 64% of the city's total production volume, production and distribution of electricity, heat, gas and water - 7.3%, engineering - 19, 9%). Description

Zaisan district occupies the south-eastern part of the territory of the region. In the south and east it borders with China, in the west with the Tarbagatay district. In the north the border passes along the Black Irtysh and Bukhtarma reservoir. As an administrative unit, the district was established in 1928 as part of the Semipalatinsk region. Territory - 1 million 43 thousand hectares. The district consists of 42 large settlements. And also, the administration of the city of Zaisan and 8 rural administrations. Zaisan is the administrative center of the district. The area is oriented to agriculture.

Ziryan district is situated in the north-eastern part of East-Kazakhstan region, it borders in the north and north-west on the territory of Ridder city, in the north-east and east on the Russian Federation (Altayski krai), in the south-east on Katon-Karagai district, in the south-west on Ulan district, in the west on Glubokoe district. The date of the district's formation is May 23, 1977. The territory of the region makes up 10 500 sq.km. On the territory of the Ziryan district there are two cities: Ziryan and Serebryan; 4 settlements: Pribrezhny, Zubovsk, Novaya Bukhtarma; 9 rural districts: Maleev, Severnoe, Sredigorny, Chapaev, Parygino, Nikolsk, Solovyevo, Pervorossiysk, Turgusun.
