ABOUT THE DISTRICT

Pavlodar region

Pavlodar region is located on the bank of the Irtysh, the largest river in Kazakhstan. It was formed in January 1938. The regional center is the city of Pavlodar. Since 1956 Pavlodar has become one of the centers of development of virgin and fallow lands. As a result of the ascent of the virgin land, the area under cultivation increased tens of times. The extraction of coal and the development of virgin land gave a powerful impetus to the development of the productive forces of the Pavlodar region. From 1949 to 1962, the south of the territory of the Pavlodar region, was part of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. The favorable economic-geographical position, the richest resources, the availability of transport routes, the Irtysh-Karaganda Canal, contributed to the creation of the Pavlodar-Ekibastuz territorial industrial complex in 1957, which included Pavlodar, Ekibastuz, Aksu (Ermak). Based on cheap Ekibastuz coal, an energy base has been created and new industries have been developed: ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, machine building, aluminum, oil refining and chemicals. The climate of the Pavlodar region is sharply continental, characterized by a cold long winter (5.5 months), a hot and short summer (3 months).
