Zhambyl region

The Zhambyl region, the region located in the south of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was formed by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 14, 1939 from the part of the South Kazakhstan and Alma-Ata regions. On May 4, 1993, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Kazakhstan, the name of the Dzhambul region in Russian was changed to the Zhambyl region. The region is named in honor of Zhambyl Zhabaev (1846-1945), Kazakh and Soviet poet-akyn. The administrative center of the region is the city of Taraz (formerly Zhambyl, Zhambyl).

Description

Kordai district is the most eastern district of Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. It is located in the Chui Valley, on the northern bank of the Chu (Shu) River.
